Happy New Year to all our members and friends. Welcome back after the Christmas break. Hope you are well rested and ready to get back into training. We hope that 2016 will be a successful year for you and the club.

NEPTUNE HEAD OF THE RIVER
Due to bad weather, the Neptune Head of the River was cancelled on 5th November. It has now been rescheduled for Saturday 30th January 2016. We
would welcome more volunteers to help on the day with marshalling, time-keeping, catering, etc.If you can help please contact Jimmy O’Neill at

THE MORETTE CUP
The Morette cup is presented each year by the Moore family to the oarsman or woman who has achieved his/her goal through honest endeavor. The Captain receives nominations for this award from the coaches. This year’s winner is Claire Feerick and in the photo she is being presented with the cup by Frank Moore. Congratulations Claire!

BLACKROCK COLLEGE ROWING CLUB
We welcome Blackrock College Rowing Club to Neptune. The school oarsmen and their coaches have officially joined Neptune. This is an opportunity for Neptune to broaden its membership base. We hope that it also provides Blackrock, a school famous for its sporting prowess, the chance to further develop rowing in the school and enhance the students’ experience of school life.

TABLE QUIZ
We will be holding a Table Quiz in the Club on Friday 15th January 2016. All club members and parents are welcome and we would encourage you
to attend as it should be a fun evening. Our quizmaster will be the eminent Liam Perdisatt! Tables of 4 will cost €40 and start time will be 7.45pm.

BAG PACKING AND ROWATHON
A group of Neptune junior members did a fund raising blitz in Dundrum Shopping Centre on Sunday 22nd November. They packed shopping bags and took part in a Rowathon. €1,603 was raised in 6 hours! What a fantastic achievement! Many thanks to all the Juniors, Novices, Parents and Club Members who helped out on the day. We are also very grateful to Amanda Gillick and Sally Butler for organising this event.

BI ANNUAL “FRIENDS OF NEPTUNE DINNER”
This fund-raising dinner and auction will take place in the Clubhouse on Saturday 13th February 2016. This event is always a great fund-raising opportunity for the club and we are indebted to Gerry Murphy for his organisation of this event. There will be dinner, a guest speaker, entertainment and an auction of highly desirable items. Tickets will cost €60.

MAYNOOTH UNIVERSITY ROWING CLUB
We also welcome Maynooth University Rowing Club as new Neptune members. The Maynooth oarsmen and women are active on the water under the tutelage of Gerry Farrell. Killian Woods (son of Donncha Woods) is the Maynooth captain.

NEPTUNE ANNUAL DINNER
The annual Neptune dinner was held in the club on Saturday 24th October. It was a very enjoyable evening with a great turnout from club members and parents. The club made a presentation of a painting of Anna Livia, (the Liffey Head) by local artist Dan Janota, to Brendan O’Donoghue for his exceptional contribution to Neptune Rowing Club over many years. Welcome to all our new members.

IRISH SPORTS’ COUNCIL GRANT
Neptune has received €10,500 in a grant from the Irish Sports’ Council. This money will be used to purchase new weights for the weights room.

LEINSTER INDOOR ROWING COMPETITION
Congratulations to Claire Feerick who came 2nd in the Women’s Junior event at the Leinster Indoor Rowing Competition held in Garda Boat Club on November 30th.
DUBLIN SCULLING LADDER
Over 20 Neptune scullers took part in the Dublin Sculling Ladder which was held on Saturday 10th October. Claire Feerick won the Junior Women’s event and Harry Thompson was the fastest Neptune Junior Men’s sculler. Well done Claire and Harry!

STEAK SUPPER
The annual Steak Supper for adult members took place in the clubhouse on Sunday 20th December at 6pm. There were over 40 members present. We were delighted to have 6 former Olympians present– John Holland, Derek Holland, Pat MacDonagh, Frank Moore, Liam Williams and Neville Maxwell. Quite an illustrious gathering! Thanks to Gerry Murphy for organising a very sociable evening.

NEPTUNE CAFÉ
The café is up and running and is proving to be very popular. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, toasted sandwiches and home bakes are available at very reasonable prices. It has certainly generated a buzz around the club on a Saturday morning and is a great venue for meeting up and finding out what is happening in the club. Anyone wishing to help out on Saturday mornings from 9.30am to 12.00pm please contact Amanda Gillick or Dara Breaden.
